13 Reasons Why (I'm glad we're friends)

Our most recent read was 13 Reasons Why... a contemporary fiction for young adults..  It was about a girl who committed suicide and pointed to the 13 reasons why - hence the title.  The consensus was split about whether is was a good book or not. (This is always good for our book club discussion)   The book did, however, give me a good idea for a new post (not the suicide part, to be clear.) I wanted to make a list of reasons that I love the excuse that this book club is, not just for the pie as the motto suggests, but to hang out with you 3 wonderful friends of mine.  I'm so privileged to have you and so so sooooo glad (and amazed, really) that we keep up this tradition.   Here is to many more years of books, laughter, around-the-table-therapy, and friendship! Cheers!

13. Intellectualized... you smart women make for good conversation comrades.
12. Progressive... I am continually encouraged to become my best self thru your examples.
11. Supportable... It is a great comfort to know you've got my back.
10. Spontaneity... I double dog dare you to deny it.
9. Virtuoso... I absolutely admire that you are good women ever striving to do your best.
8. Diverse...  I love that we are different in opinion but the same where it matters most.
7. Dependability...  You never fail me... or allow me to give up on myself.
6. Laughable.... There is nothing like funny women that enjoy being together.
5. Sanity... you are a pressure valve for me... and you remind me of who I like me to be.
4. Inspiration... remarkable in each your own way; you are amazing examples to me!
3. Funlovingness...  inside jokes, board gamers, book tamers, support group...  what fun!
2. Longevity... Book Club for 12+ years and friends for longer.
1. Friendship... y'all are the very definition of this word.

On this Be Thankful For Friends Day 2011, I sure am grateful beyond even these words to have you each in my life.
Love always,
Lisa

What's in a Name?

This book club has been around for years (more than we want to say, actually).  We have read lots of good books together and shared many late nights and good fun (with fries or hashbrowns "on the side").  This last month, we decided to give our group a name.  *ques the fanfare*
Inspired by the new look of our favorite hang out, Village Inn, we decided to go with the Village Idiots... more because it matched with the sign than because we are actually idiotic.  In fact, I am proud to say that we, all four of us, are pretty sharp ladies.  Contrary to what others might think, (prob cuz of our slogan), we actually do discuss books and are really very insightful about it.  *nods*
I looked up what else VI stands for in the official abbreviations dictionary online (dontcha love the internet?) and found both on the list along with these other appropriate meanings:  Visual Inspection, Very Intuitive, and Very Inquisitive.  I thought it would be way cool if we had 6 members instead of 4 because of the Roman Numerals VI...but I love the group exactly how it is, We are just the right size and I am so glad to be friends with these amazing ladies!  I just love them!  We have such fun together and we inspired each other to keep reading and even to try new things, at least once.
We have read a great variety, if not a taste of all genres (except horror, i think) and even read theme of books.  Our favorite is Junior Fiction books.  We all agree that they are easiest for busy women to read, because of their pacing and length.  But more than that, we think that they are very well written.  They have to be in order to engage a teenager's attention.  We have also read genres of adult fiction, and non-fiction, a little science fiction and even a western.  Our current goal is to read from the list of "Classics everyone should read in their lifetime".  We begin this list with Great Expectations.  (More posts about that to follow)
We are trying to dreg up a list of books that we have read in the past and then keep it updated as we go.  I'd like to see us post book reviews about the club's selections.  Wouldn't it be cool if we get a following and pull down some cash to pay for our late-night laugh sessions?  *dreams big*
