What's in a Name?
This book club has been around for years (more than we want to say, actually). We have read lots of good books together and shared many late nights and good fun (with fries or hashbrowns "on the side"). This last month, we decided to give our group a name. *ques the fanfare*
Inspired by the new look of our favorite hang out, Village Inn, we decided to go with the Village Idiots... more because it matched with the sign than because we are actually idiotic. In fact, I am proud to say that we, all four of us, are pretty sharp ladies. Contrary to what others might think, (prob cuz of our slogan), we actually do discuss books and are really very insightful about it. *nods*
I looked up what else VI stands for in the official abbreviations dictionary online (dontcha love the internet?) and found both on the list along with these other appropriate meanings: Visual Inspection, Very Intuitive, and Very Inquisitive. I thought it would be way cool if we had 6 members instead of 4 because of the Roman Numerals VI...but I love the group exactly how it is, We are just the right size and I am so glad to be friends with these amazing ladies! I just love them! We have such fun together and we inspired each other to keep reading and even to try new things, at least once.
We have read a great variety, if not a taste of all genres (except horror, i think) and even read theme of books. Our favorite is Junior Fiction books. We all agree that they are easiest for busy women to read, because of their pacing and length. But more than that, we think that they are very well written. They have to be in order to engage a teenager's attention. We have also read genres of adult fiction, and non-fiction, a little science fiction and even a western. Our current goal is to read from the list of "Classics everyone should read in their lifetime". We begin this list with Great Expectations. (More posts about that to follow)
We are trying to dreg up a list of books that we have read in the past and then keep it updated as we go. I'd like to see us post book reviews about the club's selections. Wouldn't it be cool if we get a following and pull down some cash to pay for our late-night laugh sessions? *dreams big*
